People Kishu Wakaushi Council

About the Kishu Wakaushi Council

The Kishu Wakaushi Council is formed by a varied group of people involved in the distribution of meat, including Eco Management Co., Ltd., Meat Factory Co., Ltd. (wholesale, retail, and restaurant businesses), Kobeya Co., Ltd. (Gyuki, Gyuki Terrace BBQ), Yushin Co., Ltd. (Kishu Waka Beef Research Institute, Karubi Itcho), Nakata Butcher Shop, Kyobashi Düssel, Ikkyoan, and Wakayama Brewery Sandaime.

You will find very few councils like this anywhere else in Japan. In addition, each council member purchases calves and brings them to the designated farm to integrate them into the herd. These calves are raised at designated farms in Gobo City and Yuasa Town, Wakayama Prefecture, which are operated by Eco Management Co., Ltd. After shipping, Meat Factory Co., Ltd. handles slaughtering, butchering, and sales. The meat is then sold at butcher shops and restaurants run by council members.

The Kishu Wakaushi Council was formed out of this gathering of Wagyu-related businesses.

The Kishu Wakaushi initiatives started with feed research conducted by the Livestock Experiment Station in Wakayama Prefecture and the Faculty of Biology-Oriented Science and Technology at Kindai University. Following this, Eco Management Co., Ltd. commenced manufacturing eco-feed and established a farm to raise cattle under the Kishu Wakaushi brand.

This is how the people from the public sector (Livestock Experiment Station in Wakayama Prefecture), academia (Faculty of Biology-Oriented Science and Technology, Kindai University), cattle farms, and the business sector, including wholesalers and restaurants, collaborated to launch the Kishu Wakaushi beef brand.
